Charter

A legal document with articles or clauses identifying the name and purpose of the organization. Some states use the term Charter in lieu of Articles of Incorporation, Articles of Association, Constitution and so on. It is generally filed with the state’s governmental authority responsible to monitor corporations and special forms of association in business.

Public Charity

A public charity is another term for the coveted Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)3 status.  This designation allows all donations made to the charity to be tax deductible for taxpayers.  To obtain this designation, the organization must have the proper provisions within the organizing documents.
