USS Virginia CGN-38

After serving 6 years in the US Navy, I completed 7 years of education in accounting and earned a Masters of Science in Accounting. I practiced as a Certified Public Accountant for over 12 years and have provided bookkeeping, accounting, and tax services for over 30 years. During that time I personally feel that my clients taught me more than I taught them.

I have written over 650 articles (over 1.2 Million words!) that are posted to this site; that is equivalent to 12 novels. I still feel that I haven’t even touched the surface of business issues and will continue to write.

I enjoy hiking, one step at a time to get to the end of the trail. Business success advances in the same way, one step at time. This is how I approach resolving a client’s overall operation.

I offer my services to my readers. My qualifications include:

  • Masters Degree in Accounting;
  • 30 Years of Experience;
  • QuickBooks Guru
  • Full Office Systems Conversion for 60+ Clients;
  • OSHA 30 Qualified and Compliance Director.

The simplest way to state my qualifications is that I’m a ‘Business Administrator’. I know what it takes to successfully run a company. The end goal is CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT. This outcome is measured by a constant and consistent increase of the bottom line. The end goal is to design and implement a system that moves your company to the top 10% performer in your industry.

My first two hours of contact are free so we can discuss existing issues and see if it is worthwhile for you to engage my services. I need to identify the relevant issues and provide a proposal to address your concerns.

I find it fascinating the importance of a feedback loop of a good information gathering program and an output of documented financial results. Discovering errors or improvements is what allows small businesses to advance/grow. I provide all the necessary systems, programs, processes, forms and supporting spreadsheets. I work with the entire management team of the organization to improve all aspects of business. I’m a believer in the importance of having regular management meetings to ensure everyone’s buy-in with the goals and understanding progress and results. The key is to CONTROL the outcome. Here’s a short list of what I provide:

  1. Front Office Operations – The absolute best internal control with any business is a well-designed information gathering program.
    • Effective marketing systems, processes and reporting of progress;
    • Implementation of a backlog reporting/discussion program;
    • Effective estimating/proposal program (#1 internal control to ensure profit);
    • Contract negotiations/reviews/closure;
    • Governmental Compliance and submittals.
  2. Back Office Operations – Timely and accurate production and financial reports.
    • Accounting systems including documentation flow, job/production costing and reporting;
    • Project management systems/documentation/client communications of progress (with larger operations this involves project management software);
    • Cash flow analysis including job/production cash flow;
    • Compliance programs including Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Safety (OSHA Compliance) and internal issues identification.
  3. Management Team Facilitation – Properly executed management team meetings to identify and resolve issues.
    • Operation meetings/goals/outcomes;
    • Safety programs/compliance/documentation (I’m OSHA 30 Trained);
    • Senior management meetings including reporting and progress analysis.

My services include:

  • Modifying your existing accounting system including the software to properly match industry standards.
  • Analyzing accounting and business attributes including comparison to other similar operations.
  • Business Consulting
  • Preparation of quarterly and annual reports including trial balance adjustments and tax adjustments; this includes communication with your CPA about relevant tax issues.
  • Implement business process improvements; policies and procedures; internal controls and a file management system.
  • Training of staff.

* I no longer provide tax preparation services but will communicate with you and your CPA concerning any tax relevant issues I uncover. I am no longer a public accountant and therefore do not render audit opinions.
